2022 World Games in Birmingham, AL will feature Ju-Jitsu

The World Games 2022 Birmingham will be an extraordinary Olympic-style sports experience where elite athletes from all over the world compete for gold in 34 unique, multi-disciplinary sports. Featuring 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries, the international event will unite global fans with the Birmingham community in over 25 unique venues around the greater metropolitan area. The World Games 2022 Birmingham, which marks the 40th anniversary of the event, will take place from 7-17 July 2022. The World Games was established by the International World Games Association, an organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

Ju-Jitsu will be featured in the World Games 2022. Ju-Jitsu is a Japanese martial art and a method of close combat and self-defense. It expresses the philosophy of yielding to an opponent’s force rather than trying to oppose force with force. Manipulating an opponent’s attack using his force and direction allows jutsukas (athletes) to control the balance of their opponent, hence preventing the opponent from resisting the counterattack. There are two disciplines of Ju-Jitsu offered in The World Games: Fighting and Ne-Waza. The USJJO is excited to see Ju-Jitsu in the world stage event.
